HTC TyTn II Video Drivers

by Johan on July 18, 2008

OK folks, here it is! A few hours later than projected, but still: OpenGL ES and D3D drivers (non-fullscreen) for the kaiser!

From  htcclassaction.org

If you are using a newer HTC device you might be aware that HTC do not ship any working video drivers (such as Open GL ES, Direct 3D or Direct Draw) with their units. The interesting thing here is that their device hardware supports hardware accelerated graphics, but HTC has deliberately chosen to not ship drivers with their units (such as the HTC X7500 or the TyTn II). This complicates video games development, and also makes the devices perform subpar in both 2D and 3D applications. Think Windows XP running in safe mode and you are quite close to the actual video performance on the HTC TyTn II compared to other units.

An “anonymous” hacker has now shipped Open GL ES and Direct 3D drivers for the TyTn II, and apparently more drivers are on its way. If you are developing Direct 3D or Open GL ES games for mobile devices and own a TyTn II (”HTC Kaiser”) it might be worth checking the drivers out.
