Apple will, of course, update and improve the MacBook Air, but the fact that these new chips are readily available to OEMs means that the company’s second-generation MBA could face much stiffer competition.

Expect to see PC-laptops to get much thinner. The exclusive licensing of the 60% smaller Intel Core 2 Duo used in the MacBook Air is over, and companies such as Lenovo and HP have already announced that they will use the smaller chip in the upcoming products Lenovo X301 and HP 2530p. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
