Intense Schedule At Mobile World Congress

The past few days have been full of non-stop action for me at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

On the first day I walked around every square meter of the exhibition and saw some fantastic innovations! Yesterday I participated in mobile seminars the entire day between 9AM and 7PM, with the last seminar held by Eric Schmidt, CEO at Google.

Today there’s another full day of seminars. Speakers include Daniel Ek, founder of Spotify, Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran, and Cecilia Atterwall, Head of ConsumerLab, Ericsson. Looks promising!

I have taken literally hundreds of pictures, and written hundreds of lines of comments from all the seminars. With dual batteries I managed to get 10 hours of battery life from the Thinkpad, so I could enter my notes directly into Evernote. I’ll try to post a conference recap tonight if I don’t get hijacked into some unplanned event.

Official Mobile World Congress iPhone App

Are you going to Mobile World Congress? Do you own an iPhone? Then don’t miss the official GSMA Mobile World Congress 2010 iPhone application!

The application offers:

  • Full maps over the entire venue with positioning support
  • Exhibitor search (you can also click the map to find out the name of the exhibitor)
  • Full conference schedule

When starting up the application you are immediately taken to a map view over the congress area, indicating your own position. Clicking at the bottom center button you can then proceed to search for an exhibitor:

Clicking at the bottom right button brings you to the complete conference agenda:

Very sweet! I’m looking forward to testing it on-site on Monday. Now I just need to fix a one-week flat-rate 3G subscription in Spain… Any ideas?

Server Crash

Up until now I have been hosting sanneblad.com at my own Windows 2003 server located in my house. This has worked fairly well until those occasions where links to my blog have been posted to sites such as daringfireball.com which killed my Internet connection for a few days.

Yesterday I noticed that my server was offline, and upon further inspection it turned out that it had crashed completely. I do have nightly and off-site backups of the server, but apparently my automated MySQL backup script had not run for ages. So my blog was lost.

I have now moved my hosting to binero.se and will try to get my site looking good again over the weekend. On Monday I will begin to live blog from Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, so if you are interested in what’s happening at the world’s largest mobile convention please come back to sanneblad.com on Monday.

See you in Barcelona!
