My iPad 3G arrived yesterday from the States. For those of you that plan to import an iPad yourself, here’s a short list of what works and what doesn’t work when using the iPad in Sweden:
Works
- 3G networking. Telenor has already begun shipping MicroSIM cards. Just put the card in the device and it works.
- Purchasing iPad applications. You can purchase apps in iTunes on your computer or on your iPad using the iTunes store.
- The included 10W iPad power adapter works fine if you replace the wall plug with a European wall plug which you can take from a standard iPhone charger. Don’t use a stock iPhone adapter since your charge time will double compared to using the 10W adapter included with the iPad.
- You can have both the iPad and the iPhone connected to the laptop/computer and in-sync at the same time. Nicely done Apple!
Doesn’t work
- Purchasing books in the iBooks store. Only free book are available in the iBooks store in Sweden.
- Using Swedish language for the operating system is not yet supported.
- Using Swedish language for the on-screen keyboard is not yet supported. I guess this is what I miss the most at the moment, typing is so much slower without dedicated keys for Å, Ä and Ö. You can still type Swedish characters using tap-and-hold on A and O, but it is VERY slow.
A nice little detail is that when the iPad is placed in the iPad dock, the top of the iPad aligns nicely with the MacBook Pro 15″ unibody screen in height. Even the curvature looks the same.
** Update ** This post was updated on July 5 to reflect changes to the App Store and iBooks.
Hi, i i purcase a ipad Will the Swedish menu and keyboard åäö come with the update?
Rave: Yes it will.
hey what website did you purchase your ipad from?

jackjhonson: Did you call their customer support? Why can’t they unlock it?
lianagabri: I bought it from a store in the US.
I bought mine here in Sweden recently and I’ve had a pretty good experience with it so far. There are some really nice apps available for download at the App store, especially the app called freephoo with which I have been making phonecalls using 3g. If anybody else is interested in making free calls, they should really try this out at http://itunes.apple.com/se/app/freephoo/id411865638?mt=8&ls=1
I just arrived to Sweden for the summer and I got a mico sim from Telia to put in my iPad 3g. They charged SEK 100. It works for now but I cannot figure out to top-up. The guy at Telia directed me to the webpage for top-ups but that seems to be only for telephones, as it directs you to sms replies, etc. The top-up there was 269. I think it is all screwed up now. I thought that I could just order service on the ipad somehow for 2 weeks or 1 month or whatever, but it is really difficult to figure out how to do it. Can anyone out there help me?
plz how much ipad (apple) in sweden ???!
