Dungeon Hunter 2 – Behind the Scenes

GameLoft has just posted a detailed “Behind the scenes” movie showing the progress of the upcoming game Dungeon Hunter 2 for iPhone and iPad. If you are interested in game development for mobile devices this is a must-see.

What I found interesting in the video is that the game is entirely produced using PCs – I only saw one Mac Mini stuck in a corner in the video (most probably used for compiling the final game to run on the iPhone or the iPad). Even the musician used Cubase running on a PC.

Nevertheless the game looks incredible, and this title will surely be competing for my attention this holiday next to the Kinect and Cataclysm.

Lego Harry Potter for iOS

This weekend the game LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 was released as a universal app for the iPod Touch, the iPhone and the iPad. What makes this release special is:

  1. Game quality. This is really the full game, as presented on the Nintendo Wii. Big difference is that the Nintendo Wii game costs 10 times more, at least here in Sweden.
  2. Graphics requirements. This is one of the first games I’m aware of that requires Open GL ES 2.0, and will not run on devices older than iPhone 3GS. On the iPhone 4 it runs in high (native) resolution.
  3. iOS 4.1 requirement. While it will run on the iPad, it requires you to have the 4.2 update installed – which is still a few days away.

I’ve just downloaded and installed it myself, and it’s really a fantastic release. If you have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPad running iOS 4.2 you should really try it out to get a feeling for how good iOS games really can be.
